Maybe it’s drinking or smoking. Maybe it’s reading or watching tv. Maybe it’s social media or social outings. Whatever your distraction of choice, ask yourself if you even realize you’re using it as a distraction. Could it be that you are looking for a little escape from your current situation? If so that’s completely okay but notice if your distraction is taking up most of your time, time that you could spend doing something more fulfilling creative or productive.
Ask yourself, "why am I doing this?"
Is it because everyone around you is doing it?
Or is it because it is what you’ve always done?
Distractions have the ability to pull you away into another space but eventually the high fades, the show ends, the buzz wears off and you’re right back to where you started. Sometimes feeling even worse because you know just how good you can feel.
Reassess your daily habits, your routines and your distractions. Be honest with yourself about how you spend your time. If you do what you’ve always done then you'll always get what you've always got. You cannot expect change to come in your life if you are not willing to make the change.
Much love,
Brie 🤍
